THE COURSE: The ELR wind reading course elements focus on systematically breaking down the terrain and wind conditions of an ELR trajectory to analyze and confirm the estimated wind deflection with extreme long-range target engagements. Shooters will change firing points often, creating limited opportunity to get familiar with a range wind condition. While using these wind training methods, AB trainers will instill the practical science of external ballistics, how factors relate to minimizing wind deflection error, and where the wind matters for an ELR engagement. Build on your ability to judge multiple wind conditions at 2+ miles using a plethora of methods and techniques. The course covers:

  • AB Device Profile Calibration & Confirmation
  • Mechanism of Wind Deflection
  • Wind Direction Analysis & Strategies for ELR
  • Wind Speed Estimation Techniques for ELR
  • ELR Wind Deflection Shooting Techniques & Methods
  • Ballistic Solver Use - Kestrel 5700 / Garmin Foretrex 701 / AB Mobile App
  • Ballistic Solver Employment for ELR Wind Deflection Error Margins
  • Ballistics Solver Employment for ELR Wind Analysis & Correction
  • ELR Single & Multi Target Engagements
  • ELR Wind Spotting
  • ELR Team Dynamics

  • This wind course is conducted over two days with range time and practical instruction, culminating with many ELR target engagements in changing wind conditions. Learn to confidently read and estimate wind deflection at ELR to increase hit probability and success for future ELR and long range target engagements.
